The Spacemaker™ Plus Dissector System is a combination of 2 dissectors and 2 access devices integrated into a single, modular device.
The dissection balloons are available in 2 shapes (round or oval) depending upon surgeon preference and patient anatomy. The round balloon is elastic. The oval balloon is rigid. Following initial dissection, the dissection balloon is inserted between the desired tissue planes and inflated to separate tissue layers along naturally occurring planes, thus forming a discrete cavity. After withdrawal of the deflated balloon, the cavity is insufflated. In this newly created discrete cavity, surgeons are able to perform laparoscopic inguinal hernia repair.
The Spacemaker™ Plus Dissector system has 3 valves. The access port body assembly has 2 of the 3 valves: a one-way valve for access port balloon inflation and a two-way valve for CO2 insufflation. The dissector body assembly has 1 of the 3 valves: a two-way valve for balloon dissection inflation.
The body assembly also contains a foam collar locking assembly. The balloon and foam collar locking assembly are designed to work together to maintain port position and minimize gas leakage from around the port site. The body assembly also has an external valve that may be used for gas insufflation.
